Grocery Shopping on Friday Night
The lengths I’ll go for cheap cheaper groceries. So I just got back from Super Wal-Mart. Yes. On a Friday night. I was (wrongly) operating under the assumption that people would have better things to do on a Friday night than go to Super Wal-Mart. I mean how sad is it to be at Wal-Mart on a Friday night?
After speed shopping through the aisles I ended up in a line for the register longer than the wait for Space Mountain on Labor Day. Of course, I can’t pick a good line. It’s impossible. The line that I am in is always the longest. If you ever see me in your line, just walk away. And when I finally reached the cashier, she was very angry. And gave me a speech how she was going to put her job on the line and not wait for the manager because all they did was stand around and not do anything. Of course this tirade had nothing to do with me because I had just got there. It was just my turn in line but I am crazy magnet so she ranted and raved as she threw my quesadilla rolls and my ketchup into the plastic bags.
But this is the alarming thing, this is a trend! With this particular Wal-Mart at least. Because the last time I went there (not long enough ago) I had the cashier who was almost in tears and speaking English with a Russian accent. She apparently was worried about the voices who were telling her to do things. Seriously.
And then there was the lady who refused to check me out until I counted that I only had 20 items.
Yes, the real reason that Wal-Mart is evil is not the corporation and the employment benefits. The real reason that Wal-Mart is evil is that they apparently do not offer mental health benefits as well…or they haven’t figured out how to replace their cashiers with robots yet (wait, that’s not nice!).
It’s almost enough to make me shop at Winn-Dixie…but really who can shop at store where there slogan is "getting better all the time"? Yeah, that inspires confidence, "we suck but we’re getting better at it…"
(And yes, Publix rules. But I always end up spending at least $20 dollars more than if I go anywhere else…but try the sushi trays they have in the seafood section, pretty good for supermarket sushi.)
Whatever.
